The History of Cavalry serves as a long-overdue tribute to a fighting art that many consider to be the most prestigious of all warrior disciplines. The book discusses in chronological order the major battles and wars in which cavalry played a vital role. Here is a sample of the diversity and range of military engagements that are covered: War of the League of Augsburg 1688 - 1697, war of the Spanish Succession 1702 - 1713, american War of Independence 1775 - 1783, Napoleonic Wars 1804 - 1815, Crimean War 1853 - 1854, American Civil War 1861 - 1865, World War 1 1914 - 1918 and the Russian Civil War 1917 - 1922.

In addition to the comprehensive historical narrative, throughout the book india ink illustrations in color depict the many different types of cavalry horses and the whole range of military regalia worn by cavalry soldiers of different nations, from the middle of the 17th century onwards. Two indexes detail the development of the cavalry horse and the introduction of new breeds, and the cavalry markings and flags of various armies.
