For sale is an Allied/Knight KB-85 stereo/mono vacuum tube power amplifier. Tube compliment is 4) EL37 output tubes, 2) 5AR4/GZ34 rectifier tubes, 2) 12AX7/ECC83 tubes and 2) 6267/EF86 tubes. Power rating is 30 WPC in stereo and 60W in mono. Back in the day, the KB-85 was called "the McIntosh MC30 killer" because of its wonderful sound and performance at a considerably lower cost. As to the tubes, the EL37s are the original Mullards - quite rare and bring over $100 each for good condition used tubes, which these are. There was only one Sovtek 5AR4 as seen in the photos in the amp, so I'm including a NIB pair of Russian Tung-Sol 5AR4s. The 12AX7s are new Ei tubes. Unfortunately, the tubes that were in the 6267 sockets were not correct and I could not find any to include, so buyer will need to get those. I also found a pair of the original type tube chimneys that were used from the factory on the 6267s that I'm including. Amp does not have a tube cage. As can be seen, cosmetics are very good with just some minor oxidation. This amp belonged to a friend and I've actually heard it a number of years ago. It hasn't been used in quite a while, so at the very least it should be brought up slowly on a VARIAC and checked for any issues. From what I can tell from the inside photo, it appears all components are original. Buyer can certainly do what he wants, but personally, I'd have it gone over by a technician to insure everything is OK. I much prefer phone calls, but emails are OK. No texts!
