Cultivar is 'Mrs. Horace Darwin', named for
the daughter-in-law of famed scientist Charles
Darwin. Hybridized in 1888.
“Standards” (upright petals) are pristine white.
“Falls” (downward draping petals) have violet
veining on white and a hint of yellow on the
beards. Lightly fragrant.
Height is 24 - 26”.
These are notably shorter with heads that are
more petite than most Bearded Irises.
Rhizomes are also smaller and slimmer.
I like their ability to stay upright in a windy
rainstorm. Never had to prop them up.
Bloom period is May.
Full sun placement = best flowering.
Stringy roots need to be buried but situate
rhizomes at the soil level. (see photo 7)
Rhizomes are NOT BULBS, do not submerge
them. They are modified stems which benefit
from sunlight hitting them.
Each pot contains multiple rhizomes in varying
sizes. Price is $3.00 per pot.
11 pots available.
Take 5 pots for $14.00.
Take all 11 pots for $30.00.
Slide 9 shows the actual pots for sale.
