1985 JD 310B with Extend-A-Hoe.
The Good: All of the hydraulics work and the diesel engine starts easily.
The Bad: Dead alternator. This is a diesel so I use a solar charger panel on the ROPS and get 8 hours. The main pump seals are not perfect so a pint an hour leaks out. The differential ring gear rivets are all sheared off they cost $2 each and the time to pull the differential up and out. This will require pulling the axles out part way. The transmission cover is currently resting in place so starting the machine will require 30 minutes worth of assembly.
The Ugly: Original paint, the seat pad is held in place by gravity, the manual throttle is rusted tight and the brake levers don't always pop back up. Most of the gauges don't work but the low batt light definitely works. There are 3 slightly leaky cylinders and most of the hoses are probably original but don't leak. It was always 2 wheel drive.
I used it for three days after breaking the transmission because the hoe can push and pull it around.
I am a homeowner who needed to trench around my house for water management. I am not a heavy mechanic. I have owned this since 2019 and have a title for another similar backhoe that was sold by the same family. The titles got swapped during the sale.
I am not in a hurry so you can come look and decide. The price is totally negotiable but low ball offers won't be considered until June 2026. I don't have a way to transport it. I purchased it a half mile from home and drove it. I prefer to sell it to someone who has calluses and a willingness to work. They will get a better price.
Contacting me: I rarely pick my phone up and use Google to screen calls. I generally don't even pick that up so just say what you are calling about and I will call you back. I do respond to texts. My email gets checked about weekly so that is only for patient people.
It has been about 6 hours and I received texts from four "people "who think I will just take a check in the mail and ship the backhoe. I want to meet someone who will fix it and earn some money. Either by using it or selling it again. Please plan to meet me in person before we talk about money.
